It has the 2 Liter PD-Diesel with 170 hp, as already seen in some Vws and Audis (according to recent reviews, the engine seems to be very loud and harsh, worse than the 140hp version, and not much faster)

Skoda, Australia needs you!

Why hasn't it come yet? Damn, I want an Octavia Wagon Diesel 4Motion, for less than the price of a passat wagon. Bring it on!

Superfresa,
You could do a personal import via the Australian low-volume approval route for "specialist" cars? All manner of stuff seems to have been brought over in recent years - could be worth a go! http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/ click on Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS)

And then you dont have a dealership network and so on. Better off getting a VW.

That torque is available from 1800rpm, so flexibility should be excellent.
But the diesel can’t match the petrol’s outright pace: the diesel hatch takes a second longer than the petrol to reach 60mph.
Its economy and emissions are a little more wallet-friendly, however, at 48mpg on the combined cycle (giving over 580 miles on a tank) and 157 g/km. The petrol manages 35mpg and puts out 190 g/km.
Available as a hatch or estate, equipment is comprehensive and prices start from £18,370 for the hatch and £19,220 for the estate

Link to the interior picture
Source: Autocar

Skoda didn't exacty pioneer the Diesel Hot hatch, there was already a GTI TDI version of the Golf Mk. III in it's final year (1996/97) with the 110 hp pre-PD-era TDI. By far the quickest small diesel you could get at that time, and faster than the contemporary GTI (115 hp 2.0 petrol).
Plus Seat already had a 110/130 Hp Version of the old Ibiza before Skoda got it.
And about the 170 hp: It is punchy, no question, too punchy most sources claim. Just a harsh punch, overdoing the ESP, not so nice. ANd loud.
I think the 140 hp is enough so far, I'd rather wait for the commonrails of VAG to arrive next year, or shop somewhere else.
