hmm some of the proposals look like kias while others look like fords. One of them even has a smilar side to the x3. subaru needs some new blook in their design department, or at least a transfusion.

Wow, they really didn't have any good choices, did they?

Judging how similar the front end treatments are on the Forester and the Impreza, it's quite interesting seeing these different grille designs... I wonder if the Impreza could have had a few styling models with a similar grille and lights?

I think they went with the best choice. I did like certain aspects of the square ones though, sort of Land Rover-ish.
Watch some chinese car company steal these designs now that they leaked.

It's been 5 years since Subaru changed their design of the Forester so you could tell that there were going to be some major changes and I must say that I like it but you don't get the same feeling as you do with previous models. U could put almost any car logo on the forester and no one could tell the difference. The front grill and headlights are more similar to the Tribeca than the Impreza or Liberty/Legacy.
So I don't think that the next forester will not be very different from the one that will be released next year. I agree with datsan and I wouldn't be surprised if Kia or Hyundai stole the designs.

I think as of right now, the form language for Subaru is poor. They seem to be juggling between a few designs and even family faces that makes their cars very bland and in fact, don't make them stand out as being a subaru like they used to. On the old Impreza/WRX/STi, the bug eyes always was recognized as it stood out. Now, you look at a Impreza from a far you might think its a Corolla or any other Japanese brand out there but Subaru.

I agree, Subaru's are not Subaru's anymore. :(
Cute cars with character such as one of the first Subaru 360's (but it was exceptionally daft) made in 1958 http://kthread.com/june_16/old_subaru.jpg continued with one of the last true Subie http://digiads.com.au/carsales/used-cars/car_ad_photos/digiads_car_ads_89739_1.jpg
Now you just cannot tell the difference with modern Subarus

The 2008 Subaru Forester look better...
Shame they were ditched... I think they look nicer than the real 2009 Forester.:(

I have to totally agree here. It appears the Subaru doesn't have any real design language at all, judging by the Forester clay mock-ups there is no common surface language - one is soft and rounded the other is crisp and edgy. Regardless, all of them manage to look terrible.

To be honest, I have to disagree. This is a new direction for Subaru and I think they have done OK.
