Inside Line has learned that auto supplier ASC has teamed up with McLaren to produce a new concept called the Diamondback, a 600-horsepower Dodge Viper made out of carbon fiber. The concept vehicle will make its debut at the 2006 North American International Auto Show.
The Diamondback Viper is one of several new concepts that ASC will introduce this coming week. Another is the ASC Suzuki Wave, a chopped Grand Vitara SUV four-door convertible. The Wave has a rear deck that pulls out and contains a barbecue and a cooler. ASC calls it "the ultimate tailgate vehicle."
ASC will also demonstrate the ASC TriLite in Detroit. It's a Toyota Sienna minivan with an industry first: a bidirectional, three-panel sunroof. The Sienna's sunroof is made of Lexan, a plastic material which ASC says is two-thirds lighter than glass.
ASC will also make an announcement on Monday about an agreement with an automaker regarding the first 2008 model to feature the supplier's InfiniVu system. The new sunroof system features folding fabric panels that accordion forward or rearward at the touch of a button to create an "infinite" number of positions.
What this means to you: Leave it to the gearheads at ASC to steal the show in Detroit.

source: edmunds
