I think the back makes this even more rediculous. Its not a 4x4, not an offroader of any type, so why make it look as one, even adding the spare wheel at the back..?

well I think they miss spelled its name. it should be FreakTrack . but however sensless such vehicles might be, I have a feeling that there'll be a lot more of them from other car makers. and sadly, not only in concept form....
here, nicer pictures from http://www.autoweek.nl/:
http://www.autoweek.nl/images/...4.jpg
http://www.autoweek.nl/images/...2.jpg
http://www.autoweek.nl/images/...e.jpg
http://www.autoweek.nl/images/...3.jpg

Wow, hang on a second, is that "4x4" on the spare wheel cover??? If it is 4 wheel drive then i take back my comment, this would be ultra cool! Interior is also miles different from current Altea and much nicer

oh, come on Cosworth.... as my friend on other forum said, it looks like a tenis shoe !
and even with proper 4x4 it would be slightly sensles. like people would ever drive it to some harder offroad than parking lot with no asfalt pavement!

I disagree mate, sure i will be no Freelander but id definately love to have one of these and take it to the hills or to the beach. Its not like most use their 4X4's nowadays for offroading anyway. Sure if u are going to buy a proper 4x4 this thing is a joke, but for the occasions i mentioned above this looks mighty cool. And also it wont be as pointless as a Fiat Panda 4x4 since this is a much larger vehicle with much bigger ground clearence than those small cars. Dunno, i think if they bother giving this 4x4 and make it look similar to this id be interested.

well... okay... I just don't see the purpose of this "city" 4x4's.... driving trough the wild and rough terrain between two trafic lights and jumping over the dangerous obstacles on mall parking lot....

Hehe, well that's just it, its not a city car as much as an multi-activity vehicle, think of mostly coastal islands. I live in such an Island, where the beach is just 25 minutes away from the mountains, and im sure some will find it fun and cool to have such a vehicle. Problem is the marketing for such cars usualy fail to ignite proper interest, otherwise this could be popular. Im just giving kudos to SEAT for at least including 4X4 in contrast to everyone else and their dog!
In all sence an off road themes hatch/MPV whether it is 2WD or 4WD makes a lot more sence than driving a Lancruiser/Range Rover etc through town all its life.
Its very rare anyone really needs one of those cars, if you live somewhere icy then a low (subaru like) car makes more sence than a huge thing with a high centre of gravity and for 90% of the rest of the world... we never drive off road, even when we do a Golf is nearly as capable as a Shogun.. mudtracks, mildly rocky roads, small inclines etc etc... dont need 4WD
Fair enough if you are one of the few who genuinly does need it though

It is meant to be a proper 4x4 without the low range.
In any case SEAT is late to the game and given its latest financial results I assume they couldn't come up with any other "4x4" to build their line up
I did read somewhere that Audi has decided to invest more into SEAT with which 2 or 3 new models should come out soon. This may be one of them.

Audi has nothing to do with Seat anymore. Seat has joined classical brands group (VW, Skoda, Bentley).

Audi is in a joint relationship with the VAG group (e.g. VW Skoda and Seat) lost of component sharing although Audi does like to keep some techs to itself to keep it above VW etc.. More premium
im sure its a case of
You buy a Skoada / Seat (depending on age) fabia / leon
Move up to a Golf
Buy a TT
Have kids
Bye a Passat
Get promotion
Get an A6
Move up to an A8
Buy wife Porsche Boxster
Trade in your A8 for a R8 when kids grow up
Bye kids a Polo / Ibiza (or a lupo / arosa depending if u downgraded your house?)
Then u win lottery and buy a Lamborghini

I know all of them belong to VAG but:
"2002: SEAT becomes a member of the Audi Brand Group, together with Audi and Lamborghini, within the new organisation of the Volkswagen Group. Dr. Andreas Schleef is appointed SEATs new President. A Competitive Labour Agreement is entered into encouraging younger prospective employees to join the company and increasing qualification levels. "
http://media.seat.com/en/view_...,1180
Now, SEAT is a member of the VW Brand Group, so no Audi managing any more.
"In its place would come a clear division between premium and mass-market brands, but with more informal groupings within the two areas than was the case under Bernhard, according to the people briefed on the deliberations. The company's luxury brands Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti would be grouped with Audi, while the Volkswagen group would include Seat and Skoda."
http://www.iht.com/articles/20...w.php

What seat should have done here is use this as a 4x4 only, never released the altea, used the altea funding to release a new ibiza AKA salsa, so their car line up would be
Salsa (ibiza) super mini
New leon family car
Toledo (current) ppl carrier
alhambra (big ppl carrier)
then the altea freetrack (called altea) as their 4x4

If the individual brands are indeed individually run, then we have found the reason VWAG has the problems it has. Assuming individual management is the case, they need to move to centralized management.
