I found this link on a clear shot of a 997 Targa, dunno if this has been posted here before. I thought this was interesting because i read somewhere that there won't be anymore 997 targa due to poor sales. New targa is much nicer as it has the wide rear guards of the just recently released c4s.
http://www.onlyporsche.net/New...Targa

I have always liked the Targa, probably my favourite 911 model.
This does look good, but as it says, you dont see many of them around.

I think Targa should become an option on the 911 lineup instead of its own model. Is there really a need to characterize the model simply by a clear roof? Especially now that so many other competitors (SL for isntance) now have an optional panaramic roof.

What I want to know is how di a sliding glass panel become a Targa top? I mean so long as the roof beams above the door remain (and the absence of a Targa stripe/roll-bar) doesn't that make it a sun-roof? Albeit, a really nice sun-roof.
I guess this is a targa in the same way the CLS is a coupe.

I think its just because its a full glass roof, not just the rear windscreen. But yeah, it is kind of a giant sunroof.

Cayman S and Z4 Coupe are the very few of coupes that are built off of platform that was initially designed to be only a convertible. All I am saying is, going from convertible, to coupe, to targa sounds like too much (engineering) work to me. Just my $.02

Dad (Daniel) shot the rear view, and Ed took the front photo.
Totally uncamouflaged and even sporting badges, these are the "cleanest" Targa pictures that we've seen to date. And, to top it off, what could be better than a father and son "bonding" story - especially when it involves a Porsche?
Exterior modifications over the coupe include a sharp-edged rear side-window plus the panoramic transparent roof which slides back over the rear window on the push of a button. It's more than likely that the Targa will be available as a Carrera 4 and 2 as well as the Targa S pictured here.

WCF

I wonder how much heavier it will be than the standard Carrera S? I love the targa roof, but weight is always a detriment to performance.

Gorgeous as always. To all those who commented that the Targa should just be considered a nice sunroof: it's all about tradition. The original Targa top would have continued to exist had safety regulations not gotten in the way. Porsche didn't want to eliminate an entire 911 variant like that, so they transferred over to the glass roof idea in the 964. Porsche kept the name out of tradition, and in Porsche terms, it will always be a seperate variant.

Now that's classy. The 4wd will be a nice addition to the Targa line too...
I suppose it'll be there to combat the extra weight of the glass roof?
