Design Challenge: The BMW 0 Series

1. 2020 Hot Hatch - Hot Hatches are all the rage right now, but ten years from now will that still ring true? Whats your vision for the 2020 Hot Hatch, choose anyone of the current hot hatches on the market right now and design what you think it will look like in a decades time.

2. BMW Zero Series - With the Audi A1 on its way, one must think that even though BMW has the MINI to compete, it still needs the Bavarian presence in this segment. Can you design an A1 competitior with a Bavarian badge.

BMW Zero Series

I am going to have to choose the 2020 hot hatch as it seems like BMW already has a hot hatch, the 1 series which was designed and built WAY before the coupe ever did.

voted bmw 0 series... would be interesting to see how fwd proportions and mini packaging would look like on a bmw~ also think 2020 hot hatch has been done before... either that or it was done on another forum a while ago so i think it's a little repetitive

More often than none, BMW has been known to define new segments within the industry as well as dramatically redefine already existing segments. One such example is the successful relaunch of the MINI brand. With MINI, BMW has successfully cornered the premium small car market. But as more consumers embrace downsizing to smaller vehicles and more competitors flock into the segment, things are starting to heat up. So how will BMW tackle such a delicate issue? Will the proposed 0 Series step on MINI's toes with a fun to drive pint sized RWD vehicle, or should it be a FWD vehicle with clever packaging and nimble driving dynamics. Its up to you to decide!

Good luck designers!!! This contest will end on September 30.
Also, don't forget to post your development sketches and ideations in the Contest Development Thread

BMW zero

Guess I'll start things off…

Quote:

Utilizing the readily available MINI platform, the BMW zero is a stylish, nimble performance vehicle. Serving as the antithesis to the fun, retro, runabout MINI.
The zero acts as a gateway BMW for the youth market as well as the perfect vehicle for those already familiar with the brand who are looking to downsize to something smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient.

Available with a range of engines starting with the standard 2.5l-inline-6 with 220 HP, The zeroD gets the 204 horsepower turbocharged diesel four cylinder and there's the plug-in electric 170hp ActiveE trim. The BMW zero offers a range of engine choices, safety features and all around Efficient Dynamics with a MSRP starting at $25,050.

Wow that looks great, AXIS.

ElementW 09-22-2010 06:16 PM

Love the funky design, AXIS, especially the side window and the way the rear slopes downward. Head lights are a cool shape though a tad small.

I went for a more aggressive look than the one I posted in the development thread.
