Default 2019/20 Mercedes Benz GLE

Some are reporting this as a 2019, others as a 2020. Mods feel free to adjust if there's future consensus.

I don't understand the detailing at the front end. What is the purpose of those horizontal slits? They don't look to house LEDs. The fake intake mesh surrounding them is cheap-looking.

The grille is also too faceted. It's a very very soft octagon, but might as well be rounded.

Other than that, this looks great. I'm glad Mercedes' new "smoothed" design language is finally taking hold. Nice clean sheet metal. The interior forms are nice, although that vent situation is overwhelming.

Car and Driver says it'll go on-sale in Spring of 2019, so I'd consider that 2020.

Does anyone else think the side windows look a lot like an Equinox? Interior-wise, I think the touchpad and controller might be a bit of a pain to use w/ the grab handle right there.

It looks like a respectable effort all-around, but I assume the larger compact SUVs (GLC, Q5, et al) is where the $$$ is at. I think "midsize" SUVs are just too large.

It's actually maintained that greenhouse since the M Class. Same general DLO and body color C-pillar. Identical to the outgoing model.

this is the first time I have ever liked the way the ML/GLE has looked. IMO it's beautiful front, back, and inside. a very crisp, design, especially for Mercedes. I like the connection to the E class with the implied double headlights as well.

Imho the outside isn't anything to write home about. The headlights and rear lights feel like they're pulled from two entirely different design languages leaving an empty sea of blandness in between. I do however like this new grill shape for Mercedes and the black glass roof. Reminds me of the VW Golf with the black glass panel between the windshield and the sunroof.

I very much like Mercedes new interior design. Very fresh! Does anyone know when a new GLC/facelift will be revealed? That's certainly a bigger market imo.

I find it sensational looking. This proves how a simple design can be compelling. Very nicely done.

It does look nice, much better IMO than both a Q7 or a BMW X5, even though I'm still not a fan of the fake air vents/grilles in and outside....

I especially like that the greenhouse keeps the visual connection to the first ML CLass, instead of turning simply into a scaled up GLC.

I see that, but something looks "off" (i.e., not Mercedes) from the direct profile. At 3/4 angles, it looks very much like the last/current GLE. I can't quite put my finger on it. And the tailights really could belong to any number of cars.

I liked the original ML concept but have never been much of a fan of any of the cars, alas.
