They needed to produce the show car's looks unfiltered as the standard Lancer for it to really have a chance to be a sales out-of-the-ballpark home run for Mitsubishi. Timidity is not a virtue. This is a good looking car based on its proportions, but stunning doesn't seem to be in the cards.

I couldn't have said it better. Producing a car very close to the concept would have given Mistu the opportunity to have a real winner in their hands. It might still look good, but not incredible.

Edmunds.com Inside Line has video footage of the new Lancer as well as some additional photographs.

http://www.edmunds.com/insidel...16193

Unfortuntely it doesn't reveal much more and the Edmunds predictions regarding the engine choices seem a bit off...

It's a distinct possibility that the Evo engine will be another variant of the existing engine, instead of an all-new one. Might even be an advantage to us all.
What I'm sick of seeing (in other articles) is the claim that all Evos will use an auto-manual instead of offering a stick. That's absurd... the show car used one because they've developed one for various purposes - doesn't mean all Evos will offer *only* that. There is an automatic option already in Japan, even a wagon too!
Another idea is that a 5-door hatch Evo might be offered in some markets - one of the Evo X showcars was a hatch (the silver one). Question is, do we want this hatch in North America?

Well, I do. I thought the hatch had better proportions, and looked infinitely faster than the sedan.

They both looked nice in my opinion, why not give us both and lend some flexibility in the choice so that it may attract more buyers?

Plus, hatchbacks are turning into a popular market in America, what with the new Caliber, Versa, Fit, etc. etc.

I thought the Caliber was off to a slow start. True? Not true?

I understand it's selling well... although I don't know why. It's awful looking!

I'd like to do some reading about why they think they've become successful... especially coming from a conventional 4-dr - mediocre as it was.

Definitely not true. I think there is a 6-9 month wait for Calibers right now...dealers can't get enough. Pretty sure the sales figure for May was 12,500.
