i get what your saying but what could be more driver orientated than steering wheel controls that make it so the driver never even has to take his or her hands off teh wheel? i'm no supporter of Idrive, and i know a 7 series type car isn't the type your talking about, but i don't think technology should be overlooked at the risk of not looking like a purist. i'm not really sure if thats what your saying or not though. really what i'm trying to say is that the driver can focus most on driving when controls are easy to reach, and controls on the steering wheel or displays on the dash are in fact easiest to reach, imo, which negates the need for the dashboard that surrounds the driver.

I guess my point is that there is a certain point at which having to many button on the sttering wheel just maks for clutter which can quickly become a pasin in the ass. I recently got a chance to drive a car with tons of steering wheel mounted controls, and I kep on accidentally bumping the volume control while making turns. I would have been just as happy to reach for a fat volume control knob on the dial.

true but if I crash my pc because I accidentally hit the wrong thing, I can always restore it. the same is not true in a car.

yeah i know what you mean, i think american cars especially put waaay too many controls on steering wheels, like HVAC, Radio, etc. Radio i can understand but theres no need for many other things besides cruise control.

Absolutely, all business and the ergnomics are good.
But, the shifter is terrible... for track use it's very difficult to know exactly what gear you are in.

Have you seen the Prius? Fully loaded, the Prius has 16 buttons (20 including the cruise control stalk). Name a vehicle that has more than 20 buttons on the steering wheel.

It's not that bad once you get used to it. Beats fumbling around with the all-in-one touch screen. Less distracting, too. But I guess the dependence upon the single touchscreen prompted Toyota to use the super-multifunctional steering wheel. Oo

The only thing that could make the steering wheel worse, though, is if for some off inexplicable reason, Toyota slapped on paddle shifters. XD
