I don't see why they would have had to dumb it down.

What is the problem? It is the same car, just pictures taken from a different angle. Taken from top, the silver looks meatier, but everything else is there (the tri-angular dent as well, just in silver it's less obvious). The only difference is the rear side window, which lacks the small quarter window, but that could be because the original silver one is a fiber glass mock-up, or some engineering change in development...
That said, it looks okay, but I'm not really excited. Then again, the Juke is not everyone's cup of coffee, neither is the Skoda Yeti or the Mini Countrman. The Peugeot 2008 seems also controversial, and only the Opel Mokka seems to have a generally accepted design (then again, a stupid name ;-)). And so, it could still sell at reasonable numbers....

Maybe your right. Still my eyes see a bit of a difference in shape but it's probably an optical illusion.
I'm excited for this vechicle because I love the concept of the B-SUV and the Juke is huge let down in my opinion. I'm excited to see what the Jeep counterpart will look like, Honda's Urban concept in production form, and if the rumours are true Mazda's CX3.

Me thinks it's not the same car:
- Distance between rear window and rear light looks narrower
- Wheel arches look more "edgy"
- Rear bumper looks higher
- Hatch appears more bowed (difficult to describe)
- Lower front lights looks smaller and less "sunk"
- ... and there is something about the rear wheel arch / rear door: look at the "piece" that the wheel arch cuts out of the door

I think you're right.
Also the black trim below the doors is molded a bit differently and the nose on the one at the top is bulbous and rounded from top to bottom, however in the picture I posted the grill projects outward from the end of the hood, creating a little swoop downwards before the grill. In complete profile, you'd notice this.

It's a fake. Check the original link, they've updated their story.

If Fiat is building the 500X as a Jeep already why not just push the Jeep in Europe? This is a very bland looking vehicle. A better move would have been to have done an Alfa Romeo version of the Renegade with decidedly Italian flair for a 10% bump in price over the Jeep. The 500X looks phoned in by Toyota. It's not offensive--assuming these renders are in the ball park--but it's not special enough to plunk $25K down on for a nicely equipped mid model which is where I imagine its placement if FCA is dumb enough to bring this to NA.
Dang it! BRING US A PANDA!!
