Default 2019/2020 NA/China-spec Volkswagen Passat

These pictures from the Chinese Government Accreditation Office show the design lines off. With a hint of Arteon on the front and side views and the rear is similar to the current NMS Passat, produced in Shanghai and Chattanooga.

This new Passat is based on the modular transverse matrix kit (MQB) and now has a wheelbase of 2871mm (+68mm), length of 4933mm (+63mm) width of 1836mm (+2mm) and height of 1469mm (-3mm).

Powering the SAIC Passat in China will be EA211 1.4T 150hp / 110kW and EA888 2.0T with outputs of 186 / 140kW and 220hp / 162KW mated to DSG transmissions.

Expect all MQB technologies when revealed later this year.

Doesn't look half bad, almost decent. How much of this will translate over to the new NA passat?

I am guessing that taller grill design will also be used on the Euro passat facelift.

Not bad looking but also nothing that's going to stem the slide of sedan sales in the USA. It will be a footnote like the current slow-selling Passat.

How curious. I don't know if I've ever seen a sedan which a more sleek rear end than front end.

I think it's a nice, if exceeding bland, design. Looks like a more sophisticated (and much larger) Jetta. I'm really over the fake exhaust outlets, though.

Decent enough looking, but, to be honest, not any more modern than a Ford Fusion (or the slightly younger Euro Passat), itself around for several years. It looks like another random sedan, certainly current Passat owners will buy this too (unless they had some horrendous ownership experience), but I doubt it will be able to conquer too many new customers.

And only VW knows why the world needs 2 cars with very similar styling, same platforms, nearly identical size and the same name...
