Congratulations on your move to Canada! Hopefully you should find more acceptance and general good feelings than Brazil.
Thanks, 2o6! It's great to read that things are getting better.

I understand that there is a reasoning behind the rejection from your family, as they might think they are doing this for your well-being. The religion is blinding them about something bigger, that is the family union. I hope they will overcome that.

Have you looked for some sort of counselling?

I also can't understand how many parents are able to reject a gay son. This means failing in the parenting duty. A person that chooses to be a parent should be ready to love and support a son no matter which characteristics he is born with.

Religion can be quite convoluted unfortunately.

As a "cradle" Catholic.....Contrary to the histrionics heaped at the old and new Pope by anti-religious outsiders to the faith, American Catholic ministry at some point quite a while ago chose not to exclude LGBT parishioners. Granted it is a bit less than full inclusion (i.e. no rainbow capes for the statues or organized Chick Fil A burnings ), but it's light years away from excommunication. While the American Catholic Church SAYS it follows Rome, it is often a lot more lax and is quietly open to lesbians, gays, and bisexuals.

Just FYI...not a statement of "better"

^ I have the impression that Catholics tend to be a little bit more open minded. Maybe because there is quite a big number of lapsed Catholics.
