Default Audi Aicon Concept

http://www.carscoops.com/2017/09/aud...ture-with.html

Quote:
The Audi Aicon, unveiled ahead of tomorrow's Frankfurt Motor Show opener, is a four-door 2+2 concept meant to represent a fully autonomous luxury saloon in the future.

By building this car, Audi means to demonstrate multiple innovations for drivetrain technology, suspension, digitalization and sustainability, while also showing off a luxurious interior, meant to mimic the ambiance of a first-class airline cabin.

While the concept is without a steering wheel or pedals, Audi would rather us not call it a "robot taxi" just yet, especially since the concept pulls out all the stops, both aesthetically as well as technically.

In terms of looks, the Audi Aicon impresses with its sheer size, measuring 5,444 mm (214.3 ft) in length, 2,100 mm (82.6 in) in width and 1,506 mm (59.3 in) in terms of height. These dimensions clearly place it within the D segment, where its 3,470 mm (136.6 in) wheelbase stands 240 mm (9.4 in) longer than what you get in the long wheelbase version of the current A8 flagship.

Extremely generic...and yet it looks better than anything coming out of Audi these days.

As I already said, I like generic design, when styling and proportions are right. But this is too far in the future to be really excited about.

I don't like fake "grills" on EV's but the execution of the Audi shield actually looks cool here. Hopefully this will translate to production EVs in the near future.

I have a feeling that this Aicon concept is previewing the A9 model, which had been reported on every now and than. Earlier reports stated that the upcoming A9 would be an all-electric 4-door fastback type of vehicle. It's also quite large, too, the size of a Mercedes-Maybach S600, as this would sit above the A8 in the lineup.
Putting two and two together, this is how I see it.

I wouldn't even say it looks that generic, I quite like it. But definitely agree with your second point ;)

The somehow smaller grille (or in this case not grille) is hopefully a sign of better times to come, but hopefully the slightly stupid concept names will remain "concept"....

I actually like the "Aicon" name a lot more than their current "E-Tron" moniker

Wow, the German big 3 are 0 for 3 in concepts at Frankfurt. It's hard to believe that they are so bereft of design talent that something like this is allowed to escape the studio.
