Looks good for what it is. Side windows at least are directly from Mercedes GLA. Cost-cutting is so obvious these days.

I don't think so. The A-pillar area is noticeably different, even if the rear windows are similar. Also, isn't the Megane on a Renault/Nissan platform?

There's also a slight upkick in the DLO on the rear doors that isn't present on the A-Class. It's very similar to the GLA, but I don't think they're the same; the Megane's looks ever-so-slightly sharper than the GLA's.

I'm not sure about underpinnings; I don't think this is a cousin to the MB. But, even if this is A-Class derived like the Q30, Renault did a MUCH MUCH MUCH better job differentiating compared to Infiniti.

Well, at least the wheelbase is so slightly different (Mercedes has approx. 2cm longer wb), but still there were rumors back with the A-Class that it could share some components with the future Megane. Probably the Megane has a torsion beam rear axle (the A-Class not), but there are also German sources claiming the next A-Class will have a simpler rear axle in cheapo versions (like the Golf Mk. 7 and Audi A3), so probably this could be this future pf as well?

That said, I'm not entirely a fan of this Megane, not bad, but some of the detailing is a bit over the top (DRLs front, rear lights), and in general it's not a really interesting design. Renault used to be more stand out, granted with some more challenging designs as well, but this - and the Passat, sorry, Latitude, are rather conservative play safe approaches. To me, it doesn't look more modern than the current Megane, just a more German.

I remember tales of the CLA being derived from the Renault Megane.

It's based on the same platform as the Nissan Pulsar hatch. I quite like it overall.

Thinking of the rivals - 308, Astra, A3 and Golf are elegant but boring. The C4 is simply dull. This does funky better than DS4. Giulietta is still gorgeous but technologically outdated. I predict a hit in Europe.

I read the Pulsar thing as well, but the Pulsar is derived from the Micra/Clio platform, which in it's core is not that new. Basing the Megane on that would actually be a step back form the previous model. IMO it's either the Qashqai/Kadjar platform, or - as rumored on many places - related to this or a future A-Class.

Megane (as well as Pulsar, Kadjar, Qashqai, X-Trail and even new Espace and Talisman) are made on CMF platform, which is a modern, modular platform like MQB or EMP2... so, I wouldn't question its tehnological base.. it's modern enough.
