I agree; Whilst not far as bad as the rodent teeth grille, it has some distinct non BMW-ness about it; Like someone decided that the previous generation 4 series looked bad (which it didn't) and needed a radical change, but without looking more modern, more tasteful or carry any BMW DNA;

What a mess. The profile is remotely attractive, but really everything else is a huge miss, front and rear.

Conspiracy time... I wonder if BMW sandbagged this model to make the 8 Series more appealing and boost it's sales (and profits since they undoubtedly make more of it than this).

I highly doubt that. I think they just have bad taste as of late. 1. They're still a business that wants to make a profit; deliberately ruining the design of one of their own models would never be approved for that purpose. 2. The 8 series is not their bread and butter coupe. The 4 (well...3) series coupe has been a staple for decades and has a huge legacy.
