The Swiz can only dream about the Fusion...cough Mondeo of his dreams: https://www.ford.co.uk/shop/price-an...de=RJG:R05:R3Y

I just don't understand the aversion to wagon-type vehicles. People are complaining about a lack of sedans, but is a wagon? - it's a sedan with an expanded trunk.

This could end up being really cool.

I hope Ford gives it an appropriate ride height. I'd love to see a true AWD vehicle where you didn't have to worry about all the stylish plastic parts being ripped off below the bumper even though you can still get through the snow. Think AMC Eagle.

100% with you on not understanding the aversion to wagons. Take any wagon, all the space of the SUV with far better mpg than a SUV.

Wagons should be an obvious crossover crossover to cars ironically.

I like the stately old square 2 or 3 box sedan : LS 400 , S class and 7 series.

So I drive a truck.

My next vehicle will likely be a Bronco given that I won't buy a last-model-year Fusion or a Subaru wannabe thing. That's assuming that Ford doesn't cluck up the Bronco like Chevy bastardized the Blazer.

The 2019 MY (in Europe, that still is) Ford Mondeo, with a small facelift, and a new Hybrid wagon version; Interestingly, it does not mirror the US Fusion facelift, but gets a different new front end and a rotary shifter in the old center console (which IMO looked better anyway); The chrome trim connecting the rear lights is however identical to the US model now again.

I think the FUsion/Mondeo have aged well on the outside, a really timeless and elegant looking vehicle, inside though it could have used an all new dashboard I guess, or at least have those tiny buttons below the screen finally freshened up (they didn't look good when released on the first Ford Sony stereos 10 years ago)

But why bother given the Fusdeo's impending demise?

Well passenger cars are still more " a thing" in Europe, especially as company cars (as many companies won't let you have a SUV), the Hybrid Wagon being a very attractive proposal in terms of tax/BIK/name it, things company car users care about; Keeping it around, especially as the European model is produced in Spain is okay, especially as the segment is not exactly full of new models (the Passat only receiving a mild facelift and has an uncertain future beyond this current generation), the Mondeo is still very much competitive, for now;

The real question will be whether the Ford/VW partnership will give a common replacement to the Mondeo/Fusion and Passat, given both cars future is hanging in the air; However, with sharing development costs, they could still hang around for another generation...
