It's not. It is a smaller (5 seats only) car based on the same platform, but in all dimensions more compact, and the only visible part shared is just the dashboard.

I think the +2 model is getting dropped and replaced with the XTrail and Rogue, though. The old Qashqai is roughly 10" shorter IIRC than the Rogue. I expect this one to be about the same difference in length. (Although judging from the shared dashboard, width probably is virtually the same).

Indeed and not do something dumb like Mitsubishi does with the Outlander and Outlander Sport.

Qashqai is also memorable without being laughable sounding a la Tiguan.
