I wonder if the fourth generation will be just a reskin of the third generation which is what they are apparently doing with the Fiesta.

It is. I'm sure they confirmed it earlier on, that both Fiesta and Focus will be evolutionary changes. Yet i expect the Focus to look even more different in the cosmetic changes it will receive than the Fiesta.

To be fair, the problems with the Fiesta weren't with how it drove or looked, but with limited interior room and quality issues derived primarily from the DCT, and the new Fiesta fixes both areas.

Similarly, the new Focus should benefit from Ford's new automatic transmission, which won't crap out every 10,000 miles like the ZF-designed PowerShi(f)t.

Limited interior room is a huge shortcoming of the current Focus as well.

Indeed. I'd have thought that Ford would have enlarged the Fiesta, Focus, and eventually the Fusion to better incorporate electrification rather than the add on strategy of the current cars.

This is just the new Subaru Impreza with a Ford badge.

I definitely hope they make it look better than the Impreza.

I mean, stylistically it isn't, even if that's the base car...

But the new Fiesta is bigger and wider. It's much more than just a facelift. Same would be the case with the Focus which isn't really bad with space at all and will probably get better with Mk4. The Mk2 Focus was also an evolution of the Mk1(even if the main carry-over component was the chassis) but was much more spacious and better built than the first generation.

Indeed, didn't pick on that. I still like the way that render looks though...

I think it looks quite nice. If Ford gives the Mk4 some upmarket sheet metal and the interior is as big a leap forward in terms of quality as with the new Fiesta, the car will be a winner. Only thing that i am still unsure of with the new Fiesta is the rear lights - i have no issue with them being horizontal at this stage, but they don't necessarily strike me as looking as upmarket or stylish as i'd expect. I need to see the car in the metal though to properly get a feel for it. So far the comments from car journalists seem to be very positive on the new look so i trust i will like it.

No.
It's NOT.
It's a simple reskin.
