I think neither the Veyron or Chiron are lookers with their bulbous, neither purposeful for going fast nor linking to classic Bugattis design, being far of the dramatic futuristic look of say a Lamborghini Countach in it's time, the Testarossa later or the steam punk craziness of a Pagani; And their vacuum cleaner sound has nothing on a NA V12 Ferrari or Lamborghini, and Pagani has shown that a turbo charged large engine can still have that super car scream in a non artificial, more like farts from an exhaust way.

Like a super expensive Nissan GT-R, certainly a lot of number crunching tech there, just somehow leaving me absolutely cold.

Speaking of records, a new derivative just broke the 300mph barrier:

Shame they couldn't make it past 500kph (they hit 490kph).

I'm sure it's because of the speed holes above the wheel wells / fenders. Here's an image of the Bugatti engineering lead:

I'll show myself out...

More curious about the tyre tech involved in safely performing such a milestone

Well I'm not sure one can say 300mph is done safely anywhere, you are entering pretty much uncharted terrain there....

But yes, the Bugatti is a engineering triumph/overkill made to go crazy fast.....

300 miles per hour... the driver and car returned all in one piece (but ready for another go?!). Thank the tyres.
