Aviva Allegro 1.7 CXE MT-5 SPD

Okay, lets start here. Take a Triangle, and Just stamp it all over your car. Youll have Some Aviva car. Sticking with the Edges over Curves theme, Aviva has managed to create a compact sedan efficient enough and fun enough to give such competitors as the Montgomery Icon and Honda Civic a run for their money.

Wow, that looksodd.
Sitting on a 105 wheelbase the car is rather large considering the total overall length of the ccar is only 124. Yes, just a few inches longer than the wheelbase, is the overall length of the car. The rear overhang is impossibly short, about as long as the Mini Coopers. The Front overhang is longer than the rear, but still short, especially for a FWD Car. (Well, technically, well talk about that later) Small jeweled tail lamps are nice, especially with an European-style, one reverse light.

Is the inside odd too?
Inside, the Allegro is nice. There is Ample room for the driver, front passenger and two adult passengers in the backseat.(three is a tight fit) The dash is nice, and offers a 60-volt power outlet in the glove box, but more uncovered storage holes would be nice. The rear seat is great, and offers a clever underseat storage bin.The Gauges arent as controversial as the Civics, but quite nice and Unique. The Interior plastics are nice, and more cheaper ones are hidden where they arent seen. Like the Kier, the trunk is short, but tall. For long items it is almost necessary to use the folding pass through.

What about power?
On road, the Allegro is quiet, but those tires and the suspention can make for a rough ride. Underneath the hood, the engine in our tester car was the 1.7L 138 DOHC with variable valve timing. It was quick and sprightly and quite a Miser, returning 38MPG on the freeway.(32MPG in the City) We got a chance to drive the 1.4L 97 horsepower version, it returned 43MPG freeway (36MPG city) but this engine was downright slow, even if the Allegro Sedan is lighter than its competitors. (weighing in just over 2600lbs, not too much over a Honda Fit)
Handling?
In the corners, the Allegro was something else. The engine isnt quite over the front wheels but behind them. (FMF Layout) With the engine mounted lower and closer to the ground this makes the Allegro more balanced and Quicker in the corners.

Is it a good buy?

Yes. Its cheaper than the Icon, the Mazda 3 and the Civic and handles and returns better MPG than all of them. So far, perceived quality has been great, and our tester has been problem free.

Pros: Quick Engine (1.7L), roomy, cheaper than the rest, Ultra nimble/quick in corners, Excellent MPG

Cons: Short trunk, lacking in front dash storage spaces, 1.4L is very Slow.

Verdict: A Great 1st tr..no a great car period.
