But that is exactly what badge snobbery works like at all premium brands, especially those which are not stand alone companies, and you can get a cheaper equivalent; That said, the A3 is one of the last AUdis without compromises in terms of interior materials and build, something that clearly can't be said about the Jetta and most latest VAG products. Why buy an Acura, why buy a Genesis G70 over a Kia Stinger, who on earth would buy a Mercedes X-CLass at a nearly 40% premium over a Nissan Navara? But, it works.

Again, the US is clearly not the main market for the A3, in Europe, it is a best seller, because of the badge. And the A4 and A6 also sell well in China, so a potentially less great performance in the US will not necessarily mean headache in Ingolstadt or Wolfsburg....

Maybe in USA, but not in Europe. Not at all. I know you like to speak only about your own market, but do not dismiss the rest of markets. Sedans are great sellers for Audi around here.

Far, very far from that. You are the first to admit you don't know much of other markets. And even if it was like that, what's wrong with it anyway?

Actually the VAG group is by far the largest fleet queen in Europe, and this does include Audi (thjink company cars)

But, that said, fleets buy a lot, and given the very high list price of Audis in Europe, even the massive fleet discounts leave a very nice margin, so why should they abandon their cash cow rep mobiles A4 and A6?

Oh I don't know....maybe because people here routinely are of the opinion that fleet sales are not real sales? I'm actually the first to admit that I couldn't care less about other markets, so let's get that right.

Some people do not need the extra size of an A6 so removing the A4 would make them shop elsewhere

I think Audi will be completely electrified and they will kill off everything with a fossil fuel engine within the next 5 years.
