This. It's not yet clear to me if they are a one-hit wonder or if they will be able to consistent produce winners (esp as they try to go down market).... The next few yrs will be most interesting for Tesla and for this segment.

So this will sit above the current panamera I presume? I am all for electric cars but it will feel odd seeing a porsche drive by and not hear anything engine noise, doesn't feel right.

It probably will sit above the Panamera, but if they were bright, they'd go below the Panamera and really stick it to Tesla. In fact there are sources that say it will in fact be the below-Panamera "Pajun" model:

"Porsche CEO Oliver Blume has now put those rumors to rest, confirming to Drive that the car will “retain a four-door sedan layout and be priced to compete in a “segment below the Panamera.”

Redesign cycles are 7 years and this was effective in the market around 2012-2013. By then the market will be flooded with used models, and competition. The new Model S has a lot to live up to, anticipation will be of Olympic proportions.

Even if they price it below the Panamera it's still a Porsche and will be expensive.
But don't forget that VAG has many EVs coming from Audi, VW, and also Seat and Skoda to cover different price points.
