Is that a LWB CX5? Because it kind of looks like one...

More like a shrunken CX9.

CX8 for Japan only. CX9 purely exported.

Outline comparison is helpful. I was about to say that it doesn't even look shrunken (it just looks like it has a different DLO). Very handsome. Makes sense that it's Japan-only, though.

That's what I am seeing too. I read another article, which stated that it has the same wheelbase as CX9, but it has the same width as CX5.

Burlapp actually did a helpful comparison between the CX-5 and CX-9 profiles. It looks like it could actually have the CX-5 face (basically the same from the B-pillar forward)...with the CX-9 rear panels (mostly). CX-8 is in the middle.

Interesting. It appears to be identical to the CX-5 from the B-pillars forward. So it's an extended-wheelbase CX-5 essentially.

It does indeed seem to be a mixture of both, given Mazda has one modular platform, it can easily be done. Interior - from what we have seen) also seems to be mostly CX5 form the B-pillars forward, which would make this an interesting offering in Europe, for those who would over go the really well rounded Mazda for the lack of 7 seats, as we don't get the CX9. Given teh size similarity though, I still don't get why they need two separate cars with the same wheelbase, nearly identical design and 7 seats...

Brochure leaked, as we expected it's essentially a CX-5 face and interior:
