Nissan have produced far worse and it may be a design you have to appreciate in the flesh. The rear end with its small tailights and vast extent of blank sheetmetal is it's weakest design element.

That looks like a Lexus version of the Toyota RAV4, kind of like the NX would look if it would have to offer a huge boot....

Looks great and a big step up from the decent looking yet old-fashioned styling of some of their current crossovers. If they keep the basic shape and proportions for production and give it some funky textures and trim levels it could be a big hit.
