I guess that is what will happen; The 7 series with a V12 was a thing in the late 80ies, when it had the only German V12 (and next to the rather ancient Jaguar V12), the only modern V12 sedan; But since then the importance has gradually faded, and IMO the fewest 7 series customers have chosen a V12 in the last 2 generations (and the current is so dull, why even bother with the engine);

Especially for a large SUV a turbo V8 makes way more sense (they could call it X7 65si or so, no one would care), both in terms of torque and character, and let's not even imagine the impact on fleet average a huge & heavy V12 SUV would have for BMW;

just because it's their flagship crossover doesn't mean it needs that kind of engine, particularly given who will most likely be buying/driving these things. i'm sure all the soccer moms would opting for a V12...

we can agree to disagree, but putting in an engine like that "just because you can" doesn't mean it makes sense. way more likely to get a v8 as mentioned above.

Whatever happened to Theophilus Chin who had the annoying habit (for manufacturers) of nailing the final design of a new car two years early from just murky prototype shots? He was an absolute genius.

Occasionally I come across his sketches in magazines, so he is probably still active, but it seems unfortunately not longer in this forum...
