Default New Tesla Battery Tech

https://www.autoblog.com/2020/09/22/...-battery-cell/

This article is misleading. MASS production starts in 2022 (two years from now - which is still sooner than most EV's coming to market). What's interesting is they're reducing Cobalt to nearly zero, using the form factor for structural integrity, increasing energy by 56% while reducing costs. Fascinating.

Part of this is the plan to introduce a $25K car. At this point, the Corolla's and Civics of the world should be concerned. Ya, for sure the car will be optioned out to $30-$35K for a dual motor performance edition, but still, the operating costs will be a fraction of that of the typical ICE vehicle, even ones as efficient as Corolla and Civic. IF they get this off the ground, that's a massive hit to Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and Mazda.

Tesla was usually late to fulfill its product delivery promises but the Model Y was ahead of schedule.
Hopefully they will underpromise and overdeliver (predeliver?) on their $25000 model as well.

I think the $25K car is likely 2023. The battery tech is likely hitting production strides late next year - so it should be rolled out accordingly.

The performance of the Plaid Model S is truly mind blowing. a<9 second quarter mile?!? Less than 2 second 0-60? Crazy. The 800+KM range is remarkable. Anyone who questions if an electric can have similar performance to a ICE car is stuck in the year 2000.

The question continues to be one of cost and convenience.

If the cost is $25K - that's very accessible IMO.

As for convenience, waking up each AM w/ a full charge, and not having to go to a gas station is pretty convenient. Especially if you put a 240 amp plug in your garage. I literally just drove from Ontario to PEI in my Model 3; never once was I concerned w/ range. Every time I went pee, there was a charger on the highway...plug in, go to the washroom, stretch, 20 mins after plugging in, I've got an extra 250-300 KM's of range. No issues - at all.

A co worker with a Model 3 told me that he jerks off while autopilot is engaged.
