Default Ford cancels all cars in US except Mustang, Focus Active

https://www.autoblog.com/2018/04/25/...-focus-active/

Figured this merited a new thread.

Personally I'm devastated, as silly as it sounds. I admired Ford's European lineup for years. The first car I bought myself was a Mazda3 partially because it was mostly the forbidden fruit Mk2 Euro Focus underneath. The car after that, my first new car, was a Focus ST. I was going to replace it with the new one when it came out but I got sick of waiting, and the '18 GTI and its 6 year warranty seduced me. I figured the Focus ST would still be around once the warranty ran out on the VW, but I guess not. Not that I'm unhappy with the GTI - it's great - but I'm really sad that there will no longer be a US-brand non-crossover I would seriously consider buying.

not selling the Focus ST and RS in NA is asinine. But it's what people here want apparently. Reason #100001 to move back to Europe....

The mid 2000s Civic 4 door hatch would be high on my Europe wish list.

He can still get a Focus hatch for the next few years.

It's not surprising, but this really is a huge shift within the industry and for Ford. Car and Driver said it's the most significant shift since Henry Ford started the assembly line, and I'm inclined to agree.

And I agree it's all kind of sad. But auto makes have to do what they have to do to survive. So I can't blame them, in that regard.

No joke, but I might contact you in 1-2 yrs to see how you like it since I'm considering getting the same thing for the same reason....

Those guys are full of it.

Its a shame, the Fusion is just too good to not have a good sequel.

To be honest I only really care about the performance options. You'd think there would be enough margin in the ST and RS to justify sending over a few. Not to mention Ford's going to squander some goodwill by killing them. But I'm sure it's too much to hope for...

I love it so far. Hopefully I won't need to use the warranty much, but I'm glad it's there. Made all the VW horror stories easier to overlook.

yeah it's sad but not surprising. the only way to keep sedan sales moving would've been a mustang based 4 door coupe or else a cheap Tesla model S competitor. you'd think that combining the Taurus and Fusion into one model would at least mean enough combined sales to save one of them.

Whilst I think Ford has way better CUVs, didn't Mitusbishi radically fail with a similar approach? After all, whilst CUVs/SUVs are a gaining market, the actual larger number sold are still cars likely, and given the One Ford strategy they could still use the European or Chinese cars, better than not selling any....
