I also think that more manufacturer are spending time on the underlying platform (better than when Toyota was simply re-skinning 10 yr old platforms), interior, and safety tech. And, in the U.S., who can predict what styling will work? The Bangle BMWs were HORRIFIC, and they sold like hotcakes. Toyotas and Hondas look like nasty sh*t and are best sellers. Mazdas and Audis are probably the most tasteful, and Mazdas don't sell a ton here. So I think manfacturers, to certain extent, are like, "Whatever. We'll just wrap some sheetmetal around this."
