Likely not the world's most eagerly awaited car, but hat won't stop us from seeing a ton of teasers and prototype test drive articles everywhere I guess;

German articles claim the Rapid sedan is dead, they are concentrating on the space back this time (whether this means dead altogether or just for Western markets is not specified);

I think a sedan version is as safe as night follows day. Maybe not for western Europe, but definitely for India and China.

It makes sense, but probably it will be more of a stand alone model than before (if it is still possible to call all those MQB products bespoke, given the amounts of components in and outside they share) to cater those tastes better;

Or, the sedan skips a generation, given that by developing market standards, the Rapid is still rather fresh (lets not forget, in China it replaced the Santana and Mk. II Jetta, both around for a healthy 30 years before retirement) and certainly is good for yet 1,2 or even more facelifts; The Golf Mk. IV platform still gets extensive use and even fresh models based of it in China (that Skoda Karoq lookalike);

So maybe the new Rapid really is more a "Euro only" product....

Could a mod please rename this thread to "2019 Skoda Scala"?

Photos of the interior released:

Looks quite hard-plasticy (altough the text says it is soft on the top of the dash and door panels) but the big screen is nice for its class and I quite like the clean design of the dash.

World premiere will be next week.

Thge interior does look more upscale than the supposedly premium MQB-A0 car, the AUdi A1 (which is made of abysmal hard plastic); There seems to be some soft materials, the hard bits have a more pleasant graining, it looks generally less busy and hard edged, even if the general style is rather bland (and, as the grille, more or less the same interior as in the Seat Tarraco, one more thing making me think this will have a Seat sister car too).

Also, look, padding and soft materials around the arm rest on the door panel, has become quite a rare thing in B and some C segment VAG cars lately. Now if Slkoda not only will outdo VW interiors, but also Audi interiors (okay, mostly because they keep their level and the others have dropped it significantly), the positioning of Skoda will become even less clear than it already is....
