Default 2018 Audi A1

http://www.auto-service.de/neuwagen/...-erwischt.html

Production body spotted. Debut expected for the IAA this autumn in Frankfurt, it will be slightly larger (close in size to the Q2, which again is nearly the size of an A3, so expect the next A3 to grow as a consequence). Surprisingly it is also claimed to be 5 door only, which is a bit of a surprise given that it seems the majority of current cars are 3 door. Technically there shouldn't be any surprises, the usual bunch of smaller TSI and TDI engines in the usual mmix of MQB technical goodies. Visually we are talking classic Audi, and the spyshots give away a mix of the current car with a Q2 like c-pillar (However I guess no one was seriously expecting any bigger changes from Audi)

Looks a whole lot bigger and more, let's say, manly. It was probably too cute so taking cues from Q2 makes sense.

on the other hand, most desirable/popular small cars are on the cute side. I don't think that anything from the A toi B segment can be really"manly" (mastering a Renault Clio V6 in the wet probably).

However I guess design is really secondary, the A1 was so far mostly bought for it's badge(being, apart from an Audi, a rather average car), and that won't change.

It looks like it will stay as ugly as it's look now.

Some new shots, likely due soon;

I don't know, but to me it looks a lot like a Kia Rio or Hyundai i20 (not that those are ugly cars, just neither new nor super premium small cars).

Technically, it will be likely the same under the metal as the new Ibiza or Polo, with teh same engines and tech, just made i nicer plastic (though, if the Q2 is an indication, there will still be some cost cutting inside compared to the current car)

I've been surprised by the number of A1s on the streets here in Sydney. Such small cars aren't usually that popular here but Audi managed to pull it off, despite the hefty price tag.

In Europe, the hefty price tag comes with a hefty discount as well. After not selling in the first few years, Audi started giving away massive discounts in a segment that usually sells close to list, so the A1 has finally become a sales success. But certainly not at it's hefty list price....

That's the effect of the bold new Marc Lichte styling.

That looks somehow like a Hyundai nearing the end of it#s life cycle...
