I doubt the Solstice or the Miata, simpy because they aren't real high volume cars. Motor Trend seems to have turned to daily drivers that offer more in one way or another. The Ridgeline is not a truck, by pure definition, it's not a truck, sorry for the rant, that thing bugs me, there's alot of TRUCKS or TRUCK BASED vehicles eligable, TOTY should go to a TRUCK.

To be honest the MX5 and the commandder should win, but you yanks are weirdos. You might pick a ford or something

Car- Sonata or Fusion, for sure. Not that I'm particularly enamored with either, but they're both (a) very mainstream, (b) significant models for their respective manufacturers, and (c) great all-around performers. I'd say the Sonata has an edge in standard equipment, power, and maybe even quality, but the Ford being the "hometown favorite," as well as a little bit of style in a relatively bland segment, gives it a few extra points. Now, if the Fusion had a little more oomph and an AWD option, it would be over.
That said, I really wish the MX-5 or Solstice would win, but let's face it, they're too impractical. I'd say A3, personally, if I were basing this contest on my own criteria.
Truck: Ridgeline, hands down. It's just such an innovative approach, and so much more reasonable than anything else on the list. I haven't seen a single bad review. It just... makes more sense than the other entries.
Although the H3, in my opinion, could be viable as well, since like the Fusion for Ford, it kind of represents GM stepping back, taking a look at its lineup and saying, "Hmm... how about we build a vehicle with personality and practicality without making it a gas-guzzling tank to take up 3 parking spaces." In my opinion, it marks a turning point for the Hummer brand and for Large SUVs in general.
