Looks very much like it's based on the Highlander.

Looks very good. Also glad about the engine, Turbocharged Gasoline 2.4l Boxer 4. A Hybrid with EV mode would make it a perfect large daily car.

This (Ascent) and the Crosstreck will be the best cars in Subaru portfolio, but also in the class of CUVs/SUVs.

Exactly, just like the Forrester looks more Toyota than Subaru nowadays. Nothing terribly exciting or quirky but it will sell big in Australia and probably the US.

If the production model keeps some of the design of the interior (esp the curving lines and the integration of dash into door panels), that would be lovely and quite impressive. But, since this is Subaru, it probably won't....
