They're either recycling a lot of interior parts or this is not a fully production-ready interior:

That's what I thought as well... maybe they're spending their R&D on battery tech? I can see them wanting to exceed Bolt for range.

What doesn't look particularly production-ready about the interior (minus the interior bits of flash and perhaps the soft-touch plastics that are often missing at this stage of testing in multiple makes)?

It's not that it doesn't look production ready, it's that the door panels, shifter surrounding etc, HVAC controls, are all lifted from the current gen.

Ah, I see.

Yeah, maybe most of the R&D cost went into the batteries and structural stuff? Does the Leaf share a chassis w/ any other Nissan product?

It's VERY similar, but nothing is exactly the same. Even the bow tie-style HVAC controls look to have been modified slightly from the current car.
