The stance of the XJ is actually, IMHO, quite good. The prob is that the detailing and side surfacing are clunky. A Jag (even a Jag sedan) needs to be sensuous and voluptuous. The XJ is... not.

I liked the Bertone concept but still don't think it would've pointed to a long-term design direction for the brand.

Maybe Jag should take more of a Porsche approach to constructing its model lineup....

Eh, Jaguar might've sold more cars that way.... ;) Better than re-bodied Ford and Lincolns, no?

And the 924/944/968/whatever and 928 weren't caricatures. And Porsche hasn't done any "coupe" SUVs, even though such a car would make more sense coming from Porsche than it would from any other manufacturer.

Of course, the other 2 doors didn't sell as well as the 911, I think....

At some point there were a few articles indicating that the XF Sportbreak wouldn't be replaced, as it didn't sell in larger numbers and the market is shifting towards cross overs, some of those articles even indicating that it has been confirmed by Jaguar that there won't be a new estate, but some "larger than F-Pace" Cross over instead (apparently, as indicated, Ian Callum was misquoted, buit it would not have surprised me if it had turned out to be the truth).

At least all those wanting a Jaguar estate car will be happy, unlike those who were hoping for an Alfa Romeo Giulia Spportswagon (the 156/159 SW versions were quite lookers, so it's probably a shame indeed). However, given how well the F-Pace sells, I guess a laregr Jaguar Cross over will be more important market wise than this estate...

looks unremarkable, which is probably a good thing in this segment.
