When you option up, the materials get a lot nicer.

Looks really weird. The proportions are pretty wonky here.

It's still unclear if the pick-up will even be based on the same platform as the Wrangler--they may end up being completely different platforms underneath:

It's like the Sebring sedan/coupe/convertible all over again!

This could very well be a Ram with a Wrangler look-alike body. In some ways, that would be a brilliant move.

The current wrangler has a very robust undercarriage its really one of the most purposeful chassis out there for any vehicle; dedicated to heavy duty off road usage as it's #1 design priority. Isnt it all built on a heavy plate-like base?

They may not be able to build much of a useful truck on such a dedicated chassis; it was never intended for such (unlike the tacoma and 4 runner relationship, and yet that chassis yielded the very formidable FJ Cruiser as toyota so planned).

That may be the strategy here, just remember who is planning products for the Fiasco known as FCA.

I can agree with the Sebring analogy LOL. Gawd that was bad, the coupe was actually a Mitsubishi while the Sedan and Convertible were closely related!

There will be some disappointed Jeep off road enthusiasts and many pitchforks for Uncle Sergio.

See also Ranger and the forthcoming Bronco. It could be done, and doing it would give FCA an entry into the midsize pickup segment, which is hot right now. If it's based on the 1500, I'd expect it'll be a lot larger than the Ranger or Tacoma, which may turn off some buyers (but probably not that many).

My guess is that if it does end up based on Ram, it'll be purely to keep costs as low as humanly possible.

Perhaps, but it would have cost nothing to develop and would pull sales from GM and Ford. Besides it's not as if Uncle Sergio has been faithful to the Jeep formula anyway with the sad excuse for a Cherokee, the nail-girl Renegade, and building Jeeps in Italy.

I just hope Jeep is sold before the Grand Cherokee is forced onto the horrible Giorgio platform.

The 4dr pick up version will make an interesting base for a Colorado/Ranger competitor.

I hope FCA goes bankrupt, and Jeep with them. Good riddance.
