Like almost all Skodas, the front end design leaves me cold. A new design direction (anything other than their recent efforts, Superb excepted), would be great. .

Seems like you were right:

This should be a major reason to get the Skoda over the Seat, the Ateca's Leon interior is quite boring and already a bit dated looking, and not up to the Kodiaq in terms of materials.

I don't get it either. The Yeti has been a best seller for years, an established nameplate, and Karoq sounds like someone's clearing his throat. Plus, all Yeti customers I know did not buy it despite it's slightly quirky looks, but actually design was on e of the main reasons to buy it. This one with it's well known looks won't stand out a bit. Now you will have an identical looking Karoq and Ateca, and in real life the higher discounts on Tiguans (that also look rather similar in base trim) mean that they sell for the same price. If you love the standardized VAG design, you'll go to the dealer who will give the most attractive deal, but if you'd like something even slightly different, there won't be anything around for you any longer....

Definitely not completely the same:

Seats and the middle console look the same though.

VW loves DUMB names. Passat, Touareg, Tiguan, Arteon, Phideon, and so on and apparently the sickness is spreading to SEAT and Skoda.

Rear lights are a surprise I guess (never thought I would say this about a VWAG car lol)

So is the interior, where details already look way more interesting and upscale than not only the more or less identical Ateca with it's Leon dashboard, but also easily beating the Tiguan or even the "Simple for an Audi" Q2.

This vehicle sold as a VW in the USA would give potential customers driving by the notion that there was something radically new at VW. The Tiguan and Atlas blend in too well with the outdated styling of the rest of the line.

These details are handsome.
