2019 Lexus ES
https://www.carscoops.com/2018/04/fu...-kicks-its-gs/
First official pics;
It looks IMO quite good, like the Lexus grille or not but I got used to it, otherwise it does not seem overdone detailing wise, and the proportions are quite good; Unmistakably a Lexus, and whilst we know it's FWD, it doesn't look like it came form the 90ies, or it tries to push a RWD look onto a FWD chassis; I easily see this model be a hit in the US, and whilst a few GS-F sport fans will miss it, the very few GS customers in Europe will likely still buy this because you can get it a s a hybrid, and well, it is a Lexus. So you'll never be in the workshops unwanted.

Kind of bland and inoffensive (front end aside), not surprisingly. Chrome detailing around the airtakes is totally gratitutous. Lexus has always done a good job differentiating their models from Toyotas, but this looks a bit too much like the upcoming Avalon, IMHO.
I dunno, I think prefer the Cadenza, design-wise, although the superior resale value, reliability, and dealer experience of a Lexus means it should sell well.

I do agree that it looks less different than before, but not because this doesn't look like a Lexus, more because the Avalon IMO does - grille aside - look more Lexus than Toyota. Kind of like many VAG products look quite like an Audi nowadays, so making say an Audi A4 less stand out, even though it is unmistakably an Audi...

Awful front headlights and grille spoil an otherwise tasteful design.

It's strangely restrained for a Lexus. I'd hoped for more excitement.

with the GS gone, wonder if they'll move this upmarket to be an A6 competitor with more power/F Sport versions.

Is the GS confirmed as gone, as is it still at the rumor level?

Anyone with a pulse knows the GS is dead. It doesn't sell. It's not desirable. It's not competitive really. The ES is better at serving the Lexus customer. it would not surprise me if the IS met a similar fate too. Replacing the GS with a "Model S" would be the wise move. If the IS continues, having it share a platform with the 3 Series would make economic sense.
