Indeed. That headlight and shape of the grille (BMW seems to be obsessed in morphing their characteristic double kidneys into a Kia Tigershark nose))could as well be a new mid sized Kia

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/06/fo...e-convertible/

The usual BMW patent drawing "leak".

The 8 series Convertible and the Gran Coupe....

From that angle, the Gran Coupe looks like a melted (thus less harp) Kia Stinger. Also I find the 8 series name on that car especially irritating , after all it is basically your 5 series coupe sedan going against Mercedes CLS and Audi A7 (the regular coupe has no 100% direct rival form Audi, and the E-Class coupe is closer to the sedan style wise), yet in hierarchy it is slotted above the larger 7 series. I guess pricing will reflect that as well...

The 8GC looks insufferably dull.

I didn't see that at first. I thought you were nuts. I went back and looked. YES there it is.

I could still be nuts. Doesn't mean I'm wrong. ;)

But, yes, the resemblance in rear window quarter panel is unmistakable. And sad, actually. There's a chance the resemblance won't be as strong in-person, but I don't really understand why BMW has suddenly decided that they needed to dramatically alter the kink....

Indeed, and this is true fro many new models; same goes for their classic, L-shaped rear lights, or even the double kidneys that now morph into a Kia grille more and more. The cars look different, but hardly better, more modern, or more tasteful. just not like a BMW anymore.

Whilst my first reaction was Kia Stinger, I also agree about the Ghibli elements (well, the Kia does after all give of Maserati vibes as well)

The GT spied close up;

Giving me even stronger Kai Stinger vibes than before...
