I was hoping they would change the rear of the 3-door version to the same style (rear lights and all) as the 5-door version. I've alwayz liked the 3door however i really like the rear of the 5-door which is why now that ive seen the facelift, if i were to buy one i'd just get the 5door coz it looks much better and is more practical

Same with entry level BMW 1-series if not mistaken. Typical isn't it, the sell you a premium product for a premium price yet they have the nerve to have "base" models without A/C or a bunch of other stuff that you can get as standard on a much cheaper model from a non-premium brand

I guess at any level of the market (except maybe true supercars), the carrot-on-a-stick "From..." price is massively important.

They might offer it in a price list, but you can bet the base spec isn't built in a large number unless specifically ordered.

Plus there will be plenty of buyers who value the badge alone way above any item of equipment - here they have a way to buy into a brand they thought they couldn't afford...

From what i can tell very very few people buy an entry level BMW without adding extra options. I mean wouldn't you feel embarrassed if you owned an Audi or a BMW and had no A/C while a friend of yours who might be driving a Leon or a Polo did? So most people buy them and add stuff at an extra price so it defies the whole purpose of an entry-lever premium car. They are just taking advantage of people if you ask me.

You only have to look at the door handles to see how dated this car is.

Okay.....

It's 5 years old. A proper life cycle is 6 years.

Not having aircon as standard is nothing more than a minor inconvenience compared to the days when not even a STEREO(!!!!) was supplied as standard equipment on the most basic German premium cars from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. That's right, up until the early 1990's, the German premium brands had the cheek to ask punters to stump up extra for a radio.

My 99 BMW doesn't have a CD-player, even though it has heated leather seats, sunroof, auto climate control. Instead, it has a casette in the dash and an empty hole in the trunk with a CD-changer input.
I tell you, CD-changers in the trunk are one of the dumbest things ever. Battery being somewhere in the trunk instead of under the hood is also alsmost as retarded.

/rant over.
