Default 2019 Genesis G70

Genesis G70

Nice looking car, however you can spot BMW, Jaguar, Lexus cues in the style.

The interiors is the weakest point, looks very Hyundai.

Meh. It looks fine. Front is overly busy with lines and detailing. DLO looks like it's from a TLX, back lights from a 2 Series. It's like that concept they released for this had little to know impact (beyond the general shape of the grille). I do like the interior with the two-toned color scheme, but the lower spec black one does look more Hyundai than luxury.

This is segment is overcrowded with competition and they're all starting to blend together. But I guess the more options the better...

First impression was : "Nice infinity...or is it a Mazda?". Still, its all down to price, quality, standard kit and how well it drives and perform. It won't attract the rich as much as the middle class. At an age where a Mazda6 looks and feels just as premium as any German car, they need to nail it on price and equipment at least.

The G70's front design is an amalgamation of Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte. The "world's best designers" got together and they did that.

Prototype drive here:

Sounds promising. Of course, so did the Kia Stinger, and Motor Trend's first drive wasn't terribly impressive....

It's a fine looking vehicle, certainly the best genesis so far - and by quite a stretch. But what it isn't, is outstanding. It looks like a mixture of Lexus, BMW, Mazda, etc., in short: proven sedans that sell. In truth this could be a lot, it will blend in, and I'm certain that it will be reliable, well equipped and priced below the competition. The question however for me remains in that segment how many people will opt for a cheap alternative, that blends in but doesn't really come with a name or real image or stand out design, when you consider how many people tend to pay so high premiums for German premium salons with "North Korean prison"levels of equipment just to get "the badge".

The interior, again best for a Genesis by quite a stretch, seems to be a bit undecided between "3 series sporty" looks and "C-Class luxury" style, but looks better way than a Jaguar XE or an Infinity. And at least not every switch, screen , steering wheel and surface you see in the press shot is notional like say in a Audi A4 press car...

This is another solid effort for Genesis. If you ignore the snobs who say "no one will ever be as good as the Germans", then Genesis' sedans are most decidedly competitive in design.

Its a fine looking car, the big grill seems to hamper the designers going 100% with their intentions, its as if corporate put it there and said "dont move this, work around it" and then went home in their Amantis.

it's not design where you have to be competitive with the germans. it's everything else. design wise you need to stand out from the germans which this does NOT do. Volvo gets it right, Infiniti used to get it right with the G35 and original FX45. This will blend and fade away, not giving anyone a compelling reason when they can get similar design from a more known/trusted brand. also silly to block the grill which is the major design element in the front of the car with the "G70" license plate.
