Size difference is minimal, like 2-3cm(approx. an inch) smaller in most dimensions; The main point is this is based of the (much) older PQ34 (think Golf Mk. IV; which can trace it's roots back to the Mk. II) platform like some other cheaper VAG products in China as the Lavida or Bora, so should be considerably cheaper top produce and buy. Difference is not in size, but in the generation of tech you get (just like say Dacia works)

Karoq: 4,38 mtotal length, 2,63 m wheelbase

Kamiq: 4,39 m total length, 2,61 m wheelbase

Kamiq has also starting price of approx. 11.500,00 . Buyers of that car will get good value for money, no matter of Golf mk4 underpinnings.

Its almost as if someone at VW creates a car out of whatever parts happen to be lying around and goes...ok thats not to bad, its an Audi, or VW or Seat or Skoda....and sends it on its way.

And given how the MQB Golf really isn't worlds better than the MK4 Golf in any obvious way...

There are worlds in terms of structural rigidity, crash performance and the suspension (when equipped with IRS) or available safety tech or autonomous stuff. The Mlk. IV, whilst generally highly regarded for it#s build quality (IMO the one golf that really was in a different class than the rest of it's segment in that respect) or - in Europe at least - back then good TDI engines, the chassis was never it's strong point, regarded as okay, not a deal breaker, but most did it better.

Where there really is much less of a difference iis the PQ35 (the Mk. V/VI) and MQB. Drive a Mk. Vi Golf next to a Mk. VII, not that much, but one can definitely feel the nearly 20 years between PQ34 and MQB.

Yes, duhh, obviously crash safety, but the current Golf is as deadly dull and benign/numb handling as the Golf of 20 years ago. There is a reason the GTI costs $10K more. The basic Golf does not stand out from the crowd now nor has it for generations. I seriously doubt that VW would put out the Kamiq and watch it fail in crash standards. Add some high strength steel to the old platform and some airbags and call it good.
