Default 2018 Kia Stonic

Spy shots of the Kia Stonic small SUV have hit the world wide web.

Looks like a small Rio: http://www.kia-world.net/spy-shots-kia-stonic/

This. I am having a hard time thinking of a worse name on a new vehicle in a long, long time.

And what kills me is that Kia still owns both the Mesa and Mojave names, AFAIK.

And Telluride! If they aren't actually building something above the Sorento, that name is great too.

My question is why they are doing a "Stonic" in addition to the Niro. They both seem aimed at the same/similar size class and customer.

Stonic will be much smaller than Niro, and slotted beneath it. How Stonic will work with a potential AWD/e-AWD Soul is another story, but considering that Americans can't get enough SUVs, it may not matter.

Indeed. The Niro is 4,35m, and that's about the size of a HRV, CX3, and only a tad longer than a Renegade, 500X and the European stuff (one can expect the next peugeot 2008 and Ford EcoPsort to grow in a similar mold). Much smaller is difficult to imagine, and then lets not forgt the Soul aiming at a very similar market. I know the Soul is officially something unique, and the Niro is Hybrid only, but it's still crowded. And, in Europe at leats, the Sportage entry model is very cheap, dealers sell it at the entry level price of vehicles a sgement below .... (and then we haven't vene mentioned that in China there is that KX3 thing, which looks taller and generlly more "EcoSport" rugged than the shots of teh Stonic suiggest)
