What Mazda needs urgently is a proper performance line-up to rival the likes of the Ford ST/RS, VW GTi/R etc In Australia Mazda is a BIG seller and for good reason but it lacks the street cred that performance versions bring in spades. Currently the only model in Mazda's line-up that has a sporty image is the MX-5 and that's not a straight out performance car either, nor are the SP trim levels on the 3.
