Default 2018/19 Mercedes CLS

http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...r-1477606.html

First pictures of the next generation of the creator of the "4 door coupe" hype.

Although it will be derived from the E-Class platform, unlike say the SLC name switch won't happen here, but the CLS name remains, so again already breaking with the new found "naming logic".

Apart form the name staying the same, platform and engines will be new, and it also seems that the car will look sleeker, with an even faster rear window, and a longer tail, including a rear end that looks similar to the S-Class coupe and convertible, including the horizontal taillights.

This will be a four-door E coupe, more than ever. It couldn't be any other way if they still want to market it like a coupe. Besides, any departure from that theme is very unlikely given the latest MB releases. Lengthwise it looks closer to the S class, and i bet price will be too.

Finally Mercedes moving away the the ugly anti-wedge dropping line, to a line-less Porsche-like design. Will look clean, but to stand out, proportions are even more important. So far a see a sportier looking S Class without the ugly dropping line. Gets my approval.

The tail is horribly proportioned. I'm hoping the trunk lid does not revive the Bangle atrocity of a stuck on lid.

Agreed. The car looks thick waisted and stretched (as opposed to long and lean). The trunk looks like its lifted from the C-Class coupe. This is most unfortunate since I think that that's the absolutely WORST part of that car (and that car as a whole is very awkward looking).

But perhaps it will look different in real life? (the original CLS looked considerably better this way, IMHO).

Agree! I thought the first CLS was atrocious because of its droopy tail and that it couldn't get worse, but the second CLA was and then I thought it couldn't get worse, but apparently it can.

Big booty on this thing. Where is IS300M, this looks like a modern Chrysler LHS.

The Chrysler LHS (Concorde, 300m, Intrepid, etc.) were brilliantly packaged, pushing the driver right behind the front axle, the engine practically into the dashboard and slanting the windshield to make almost a continuous curved plane with the hood and deck. The chassis had a tremendous amount of room and a strong identity underneath that sleek roof. It was spacey and futuristic. The car was no flats only curves almost channeling the streamline era.

And then.

Chrysler went Traditional, kicking that pudgy blob to the curb and switching to the three box ultra traditional upright RWD SEDAN. The car lived on only in J-Lo's posterior eventually licensing itself to Kim Kardashian.

Now we see how well THAT worked out.

This Mercedes needs to loose a lot of camo, I hope this works out.
