Not bad, reminds me of the R-Class, which is probably the best Mercedes-Benz ever. Unfortunately this VW is FWD, unlike the RWD Merc.

Good question, it seems people in china like suv's and due to chinese laws, it's cheaper to build a large suv in china than import say the touareg. Yes there is the teramont, so this is puzzling.

The SMV is beautiful in a way that the Atlas simply isn't.

Whilst it is better looking than the blocky Atlas or Tiguan or the majority of the other 734 MQB based VAG cross overs, it does, as pointed out, have quite a Buick/Opel vibe;

And unless this replaces some existing model, then just why, why yet another cross over being based on the exactly same underpinnings? Which new customer base should this target, that the plethora of other MQB models don't already cover with at least 3 models?
