I guess it is due to the sliding door on that side, that kind of dictates a flat door panel (design of door cards is also different)

Ok, fair enough. But the passenger seat seems to be some fold together thing (with an integrated seat belt, unlike the conventional driver side solution), more like what you usually find in the back of MPVs. Guess an arm rest would be in the way of folding it...
