Any thoughts on a 2000 Civic SI stock with 182,000 miles?
I talked with the owners, an American couple who are the second owners since 2001, used it as a second car for long trips and kept up all maintenance. They have kids and have converted to electric cars only. $6K OBO

Seems a bit high, no? The miles aren't too much to worry about as these are bulletproof, but I'd check Edmunds, KBB, etc. for their price ranges.

I think so too, though according to the market Si's of this generation are going for an average of 7-10K for nice examples with 50-120K miles. Heck, there have been a couple of them that broke the 20K mark which imo is ridiculous.

I just wonder [I haven't driven it yet] is it as special as people say it is? Is it a poor man's Type R? I don't expect it to be fast, but feel like something special that's worth preserving.

It needs a timing belt soon, and the oil needs to be topped up every few months [no external leaks, so I assume it's burning oil but they don't drive it very often].

That’s a pretty average price for that car. I’d try and get them down to 5k if possible, but 6k for an unmolested SI is what you’re gonna pay these days.
