Who on earth thought it would be a good idea to move the nav screen from the top of the center console all the way to the bottom?! That makes soooo much sense...

Actually the Nav Screen had been moved down already at the 2010 facelift, as the integrated touch screen solution is cheaper to produce than the split screen solution. SInce then you have a colour screen down above the HVAC controls and a ca. 2000 yellow/black screen up there showing external temperature and time. See the pics on page 1.

Good call. Still though, you can place a touchscreen higher.
