Given the new Civic platform, the ILX has huge
potential, but I wouldn't bet much on anything worthwhile actually coming to fruition. Acura might as well just sell the MDX, RDX, and NSX. Their sedans are painfully inadequate.
Style the ILX with cues from the NSX, put the new Si powertrain in it as a base and then put a frickin de-tuned Type R 2.0 turbo
in it for god's sake, give it and AWD option, and introduce a completely new interior design scheme...
Doable right? ...
The compact luxury market is booming now but only serious luxury brands are finding success. I think that's part of a fundamental problem/rule of this segment being so brand-driven. No one wants a $35k Civic with an Acura badge. They simply aren't at the level of luxury as the Germans (and they sort of know this and accept their "smart-buy" strategy). And that's a huge barrier for them in the lower segments.
