And THAT is the irony of the Civic. Its proportions are pretty ideal. If you get rid of the gingerbread and replace it with Mercedes' refined restraint, you'd have a very affordable car that looks double the price.

Well, I assume that it WILL be the double the price if/when we ever see the ILX....

Why they bother with the ILX I'll never know. It's a terrible seller. The Buick Verano outsold it 2:1 and GM canned the Verano for being a poor seller.

Given the new Civic platform, the ILX has huge potential, but I wouldn't bet much on anything worthwhile actually coming to fruition. Acura might as well just sell the MDX, RDX, and NSX. Their sedans are painfully inadequate.

Style the ILX with cues from the NSX, put the new Si powertrain in it as a base and then put a frickin de-tuned Type R 2.0 turbo in it for god's sake, give it and AWD option, and introduce a completely new interior design scheme...

Doable right? ...

The compact luxury market is booming now but only serious luxury brands are finding success. I think that's part of a fundamental problem/rule of this segment being so brand-driven. No one wants a $35k Civic with an Acura badge. They simply aren't at the level of luxury as the Germans (and they sort of know this and accept their "smart-buy" strategy). And that's a huge barrier for them in the lower segments.

The"N" performance model teased. It will have a 2.0 petrol with either 246hp or 275hp, so more of a Golf GTI/Focus ST competitor than full blown Golf R/Focus RS territory...

One suspension tune for the entire world? (one suspension to rule them all???) While I admire the conceptual purity, I also shudder (literally, since I live in a pot-holed part of the world)

The car isn't going to be sold in the US, though.

Did they actually say it wasn't coming to the U.S., or have they just not announced a decision?

It's official--we may get an Elantra N, however:
